WATCH: Delray Beach resident wins first professional tennis title in U.S. since pandemic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Delray Beach resident, Reilly Opelka, won the first professional tennis match in the United Since since the pandemic halted sporting events.

Opelka defeated Miomir Kecmanovic 3-1 to become the UTR Pro Match Series champion. The Tennis Channel and UTR set up the event on a private tennis court in West Palm Beach. The resident has been allowing Opelka to train in his backyard.

The live event is the first live sporting event to be broadcast on national television after the pandemic shut down the sports world two months ago.

CBS12 sports director, John Evenson, caught up with Opelka after the win.
