UPDATE FROM OUR GENERAL MANAGER

Dear Hills Members,

Our Masters Swim Coach, Evgenii "Yev" Somov, can now boast that he is the 13th fastest 100-meter breaststroke swimmer in the world! Making his Olympic debut on August 27, Yev swam with the best of the best and qualified for the semifinal race. Around the time this newsletter will be going out, he will have also competed in the 50-meter freestyle. We wish him luck in that race, and we are so proud of him for accomplishing his dream of swimming at the Olympics!

Also by the time you are reading this, the new suit spinner in the women's locker room should be installed. It was delivered earlier today, 7/29.

Please continue to keep a watchful eye on any children in or around the pools, hot tubs and the Splash Pad, as well as in the shower areas and locker rooms. We will continue to have lifeguards on duty during August, albeit a smaller crew, as one by one they will be heading back to college or starting another year in high school. Lifeguards or no lifeguards, it is your duty as parents/guardians to keep an eye on your children and ensure they are abiding by club rules and policies.

Good luck to all heading back to school this August!

-Nick

Summer Perk: Family Fun Nights!

img

img

Our "Family Fun Nights" held on June 28 and July 19 were a huge success! Thankfully, Mother Nature must have gotten an invite, because we were blessed with two warm summer nights which we all know is hit or miss up here in the hills!

If you missed these Friday night events, we removed the lane lines in the lap pool, played 80s music on the pool deck, tossed big inflatables into the pools, and provided entertaining pool activities. Both nights were well attended and the adults seemed to enjoy socializing with other members in the cabanas and on the pool deck while the kids loved having the entire big pool open for play. Chef Andrea prepared a delicious BBQ meal in June followed by an amazing Mexican-style dinner in July that included tacos, quesadillas, and even churros. Members who purchased meals received a raffle ticket for some fantastic giveaways!

A big thanks to not only our lifeguard staff for ensuring the safety of all who attended, but also the front desk and maintenance crew that helped organize and clean the club during and after these special summer events.

Stay tuned as we hope to close out this summer season with one more "Family Fun Night" later this month!

Lobby Art: Under the Sea at The Hills

img

This summer's "Under the Sea" mural is a collaboration between campers, members, and staff! The Hills summer campers, supervised by Anthony Lum, have been drawing fish, octopi, starfish, and other imaginative sea critters all summer. At our Family Fun Nights, many members added their versions of sea life. The staff has joined in, and if you're looking for those lost goggles or snorkels, maybe they made it onto the mural. Watch it grow through August, and feel free to add your creative touch! Thanks to everyone who has contributed.

If you would like to exhibit your work at The Hills, please email Sally Landis at [email protected].

Group Ex Director Angelique Steps Down, Welcome (Back) Jenn

Going forward please direct any questions/concerns to Jenn, [email protected]. I hope to stay on as an instructor/trainer and look forward to seeing you all in class.

Best,

Aqua Fitness: Exercising in the Water

img

New to the club and wondering about group exercise offerings? Our aqua fitness classes are included in your membership and open to all ages and abilities. We supply any/all equipment for the class such as flotation belts, noodles, styrofoam barbells and more. The workouts are easy on the joints and include water walking/running, abdominal work and toning exercises. Classes are designed to burn fat, increase cardiovascular fitness, and range of motion and muscle tone. Another benefit is that it's a great cross training exercise. And because of the resistance factor, water exercise is a double-duty workout, meaning you get a combination of cardio and strength training.

We offer these classes 4 days a week from 9-10am. These "water" workouts vary from class to class, but are typically a fun and social atmosphere. Since our aqua fitness classes are well attended we kindly ask that you register in advance if you plan on participating.

S'WET™ DEEP is a Serious Full Body Workout

img

Designed to incorporate blocks of activity focused on HIIT, strength, and advanced cardio training, with a splash of fun to work your entire body, S'WET™ DEEP combines steady state conditioning, isolation work, and strategic body angles to effectively strengthen your core and provide a comprehensive full-body workout.

Class Time: Tuesdays, 7:30-8:15am
Location: Diving well
Maximum of 9 students - register here!

We recommend this class for athletes, swimmers, and anyone seeking a serious full-body workout. Please arrive on time.

Pickleball is a Social Sport

img

More members are finding out just how fun the sport of pickleball is. We've got a weekly Pickleball group here at The Hills (11am-1pm Monday through Friday) and they love it when new members want to join their games. After all, pickleball is a game that forces people to socialize. Some people play for mental health, others play because they can no longer play tennis (bad knees). And some see it as a few hours of not a care in the world...not to mention a good workout!

Games during the "open" weekday hours are friendly, social games with some accommodations made for beginning players. You'll see people of all ages and athletic ability having fun on our court. If this block of time doesn't work with your schedule, you are welcome to book a 1-hour reservation per membership per day. If you don't have your own equipment, you can ask the front desk staff for the pickleball bag (complete with paddles and balls). And if pickleball is not your thing, grab one of our basketballs from the front desk, slide the net out of the way and shoot some hoops!

Tae Kwon Do: a Valuable Martial Art

img

img

Parents want the best for their kids, and enrolling them in a martial art like Tae Kwon Do can be a great way to support their growth and development. Sensei Jeff not only teaches self-defense skills but also instills important values such as discipline, respect, and perseverance. This year-round program is for kids ages 5-17 (split into two groups based on level and ability) and it enhances focus, concentration, and physical fitness, which are all essential for academic success and overall well-being. Tae Kwon Do is also a great way for kids to make new friends and develop social skills. So if you are looking for a new after school activity for your child, this might be the one!

Each session involves kicking, punching and self defense, but most of all, Sensei Jeff encourages the kids to have fun. This ancient Korean art of self defense can help ease emotional problems such as stress and depression, while promoting physical fitness. The goal of the program is to instill confidence, teach respect, and focus on raising self esteem. There are currently 11 students enrolled, ranging in age from 5-13. Register your child/children today!

Tuesdays & Thursdays
3:30–4:45pm Beginner
6–7:15pm Advanced

Members: $95 per month
Non-members: $110 per month

For more information or to register your child for Tae Kwon Do, please contact Jeff directly via email or by calling 510-339-0234 x118.

Cabanas are a Hot Commodity on Warm Days

img

As we head into August and kids go back to school, the demand for cabana reservations remains high in the afternoon/evening hours as well as on the weekends. Keep that in mind when you are planning to head up to the club.

Reservations for our "lounge" cabanas open at 8am 3 days in advance. For example, on Tuesday morning at 8am, members can log in and book a cabana reservation for Friday. We kindly ask that members tidy up the cabana at the end of each use.

Cabanas 2-9 are available daily by reservation. Please be aware of our club policy: one 2-hour reservation per membership per day.

For those members who enjoy an outdoor workout, Cabana 1 will remain as the designated workout cabana (no reservation required to use the outdoor fitness equipment).

We love celebrating our employees' birthdays here at The Hills! Please join us in wishing each of these "August babies" a happy birthday and thanking them for all of their hard work!
